Schlumbergera ex epicactus lit cactus truncata hybrides syn Zygocactus

Schlumbergera truncata, formerly classified in the genus Zygocactus and known as the Christmas cactus or crab cactus, is an epiphytic cactus native to the tropical forests of Brazil. This entry covers horticultural hybrids derived from this species. The flattened, glossy green stems are made up of toothed segments that arch as they grow pendulous. From November to January, satiny, zygomorphic flowers appear at the stem tips, in shades of red, pink, purple, orange or white depending on the hybrid. It grows well in bright light without direct sun, in well-drained substrate, with a rest period before flowering.
