Lilium pomponium

Native to the Maritime Alps of France, Italy, and Spain, Lilium pomponium, or turban lily, is a bulbous perennial with a small, ovoid, white bulb rooted in the crevices of calcareous or dolomitic soils. Narrow, grass-like leaves clothe a stem that can reach 1.2 m in height. In June and July, nodding, bright orange-red flowers with light black speckling and strongly reflexed petals open. A species of dry, sunny habitats, it grows well in well-drained, calcareous soil and tolerates summer drought well.
