Lilium tigrinum double

The double tiger lily, Lilium lancifolium (formerly Lilium tigrinum) 'Flore Pleno', is a double-flowered form of the tiger lily native to China, Korea, Japan and Guam. The sturdy stems, 1 to 1.5 m tall, bear numerous black bulbils in the axils of the lance-shaped leaves. In summer they produce up to thirty large, bright orange flowers speckled with purplish-black, with doubled, recurved tepals, sterile and pollen-free. Propagation is by the aerial bulbils. This variety requires a sunny to partially shaded position and moist, well-drained, humus-rich soil.
