Allium atroviolaceum

Native to a wide range extending from south-eastern and south-central Europe to Central Asia and the Arabian Peninsula (Iran, Iraq, Turkey, the Caucasus, Central Asia), Allium atroviolaceum is a perennial bulbous plant producing broad linear leaves that wither before flowering. The sturdy stem, reaching up to 1 m, ends in a dense spherical umbel packed with numerous small, dark purple to violet flowers. Flowering occurs in summer. It requires a sunny position, well-drained soil, and dry summer dormancy after flowering.
