Nectaroscordum tripedale

Native to the Caucasus, Iraq, Turkey and northern Iran, Nectaroscordum tripedale (sometimes classified as Allium tripedale) is a bulbous perennial related to onions and garlic. Long, strap-shaped leaves, triangular in cross-section, precede a stout stem 50 to 90 cm tall bearing a dense umbel of up to 30 pendulous, bell-shaped, bright rose-pink flowers with cream-edged petals, rich in nectar and attractive to bees. Flowering occurs in spring, usually May-June. It grows well in full sun, in well-drained soil, and self-seeds occasionally; bulbs offset slowly and are mainly increased from seed.
