Hesperantha baurii

Hesperantha baurii is a tuberous geophyte native to southern Africa, found notably in the Drakensberg, KwaZulu-Natal, Lesotho and the former Transvaal, in summer-rainfall regions. Its narrow leaves, barely 3 mm wide, accompany a flowering stem 15-30 cm tall. In summer it bears star-shaped pink to mauve flowers with a perianth tube about 1 cm long, opening in full daylight and pollinated by both bees and beetles. It grows in full sun, on well-drained soil, with regular watering during the growing season and a dry winter dormancy.
