Scilla peruviana hughii

The name Scilla peruviana 'Hughii' refers to a pale-flowered form or cultivar of Scilla peruviana (Portuguese/Cuban lily), a bulbous perennial native to the western Mediterranean basin (Spain, Portugal, North Africa), where it grows on dry, rocky ground. The bulb produces a rosette of broad, glossy dark green leaves and a tall flowering stem bearing, in late spring to early summer, a dense conical raceme of numerous star-shaped flowers, here pale lilac-blue, sometimes with purple-tinged bracts. Hardy and easy to grow, it thrives in full sun to part shade on well-drained soil, becoming dormant in summer after flowering.
