Galanthus caucasicus

Galanthus caucasicus (Caucasian snowdrop), now often treated as a synonym or variety of Galanthus alpinus, is a bulbous plant native to high valleys of the Greater Caucasus, where the growing season can be as short as six weeks. The bulb produces two often broad, grey-green leaves that appear together with the flower. In deep winter or earliest spring, a short stem bears a single nodding, lightly scented white flower with three outer tepals and three shorter inner tepals marked with green. Hardy, it thrives in cool, humus-rich soil in woodland shade, becoming dormant in summer.
