Habenaria radiata

Habenaria radiata (white egret flower, or sagiso) is a terrestrial orchid native to Japan, China, Korea and Russia, growing in wet grasslands, upland bogs and seepage slopes. It develops from fleshy tubers that produce narrow, strap-like, dark green leaves. In late summer, an upright, unbranched stem bears white flowers about 4 cm across whose heavily fringed lip divides into three lobes resembling a white egret in flight. Declining in the wild due to over-collection, it requires moist, acidic, peaty soil and a partly shaded position.
