Lilium formosanum (Formosa lily) is a bulbous perennial native to Taiwan (formerly Formosa), now naturalized in many parts of the world. The bulb produces one or several sturdy, upright stems reaching 1.2-2 m, clothed in narrow, lance-shaped, dark green leaves. From late summer into autumn it bears large, pendent, trumpet-shaped, strongly fragrant white flowers, sometimes flushed reddish-purple outside, up to 20-30 cm long. It is one of the few lily species that can flower in its first year from seed. It grows in full sun on humus-rich, well-drained soil.
