Cyanastrum cordifolium

Cyanastrum cordifolium is a tuberous herbaceous plant of the family Tecophilaeaceae (formerly placed in Cyanastraceae), native to tropical West and Central Africa (Nigeria, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Democratic Republic of Congo), where it grows in moist forest understorey. The tuber produces heart-shaped, long-petioled leaves, 8-15 cm long, glabrous and membranous. It flowers with small, bright blue blooms carried on a slender stalk. Rarely cultivated outside its native range, this tropical geophyte needs constant warmth, light shade and consistently moist, humus-rich soil, without a marked dry period.
