Gethyum

Gethyum is a small South American genus of the family Amaryllidaceae (tribe Gilliesieae), closely related to the genera Gilliesia and Solaria, and sometimes included within the latter by some authors (as Solaria atropurpurea). Its best-known species, Gethyum atropurpureum, is native to the Santiago region of central Chile, an area with mild, wet winters and dry summers. It is a small bulbous plant producing star-shaped flowers in spring, unusual for their blackish-purple colour. It becomes dormant in summer and is grown in well-drained soil, in a sunny position, sheltered from excessive summer moisture.
