Reineckea carnea

Reineckea carnea is a rhizomatous herbaceous plant of the family Asparagaceae, native to China and Japan, where it grows on the woodland floor and on moist, sheltered slopes. Evergreen, it forms dense clumps of narrow, strap-shaped, glossy dark green leaves resembling fine turf. In late summer and autumn it produces short spikes of small, fragrant, star-shaped, pink to flesh-coloured flowers, followed by decorative red berries. Hardy and slow-growing, it is grown in part shade, in cool, humus-rich, well-drained soil, and makes a good woodland ground cover.
