Merremia

Merremia is a pantropical genus in the morning glory family (Convolvulaceae) comprising twining vines, several of which - notably the well-known Merremia tuberosa (wood rose) - develop a large underground tuber as a storage organ. The climbing stems, sometimes woody at the base, bear simple leaves, often heart-shaped or lobed, and produce large, funnel-shaped yellow or white flowers typical of the family, opening in sunshine and closing in cloudy weather. The capsule-type fruit is surrounded by sepals that thicken and become woody at maturity, giving a wooden-flower appearance. In cultivation, these vines need warmth and full sun.
