Clivia gardenii

Clivia gardenii is an evergreen, rhizomatous perennial native mainly to KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, growing in the shade of evergreen forests on steep, south- or southeast-facing slopes in well-drained loamy soil. It forms a tuft of 10 to 12 bright green leaves, 35 to 90 cm long, and reaches 80 to 130 cm in height. From April to June (sometimes flowering again in autumn), it produces an umbel of narrow, pendent, tubular flowers, orange with green tips. In cultivation, it requires shade to part shade, humus-rich soil, and protection from frost.
