Oxalis namaquana is a small bulbous plant native to Namaqualand and the northwestern Cape Province (South Africa/Namibia), growing in desert to semi-arid habitats, often in sandy soil. The ovoid bulb, with thin blackish tunics, produces a rosette of trifoliate, rabbit-ear-shaped leaves. Shortly after the first autumn rains it bears an abundance of fluorescent yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers about 3 cm across. Extremely drought-hardy, this species grows best in full sun on well-drained soil and becomes fully dormant in summer, when the bulb should be kept dry.
