Ebenus creticus

The name Ebenus creticus corresponds to Ebenus cretica, Cretan ebony, a small shrub in the pea family (Fabaceae) endemic to the island of Crete, growing on rocky slopes and limestone cliffs from sea level up to 600 m. Reaching 50 to 100 cm tall, it has silvery, pubescent compound leaves densely covered in whitish hairs. From late March to June it produces long, dense racemes 5 to 20 cm long, crowded with bright pink to purple flowers. In cultivation it requires full sun, alkaline, well-drained soil, and is sensitive to excess winter moisture.
