Melia toosendan

Melia toosendan is a deciduous tree in the mahogany family (Meliaceae), native to China (regions south of the Yellow River), Japan, the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, growing in lowland open ground and at the edge of sparse forests. It is notable for its large bipinnate leaves up to 60 cm long and its spring display of small lilac to purple flowers in fragrant panicles, followed by shiny yellow-brown, round to oval fruits about 2 cm across. Traditionally used as a shade tree and in Chinese medicine (dried fruit), it grows in full sun on ordinary, well-drained soil in temperate to subtropical climates.
