Gladiolus pappei

Gladiolus pappei is a cormous species endemic to the Cape region of South Africa, growing in marshy spots on sandstone slopes, notably on the Steenberg plateau. It is a slender plant with a small, globose corm, producing a thin stem about 30 cm tall with narrow, overlapping leaves. In spring it bears a loose spike of two to four dark pink flowers. Like most spring-flowering South African gladioli, it prefers moist soil during the growing season, a sunny position, and a dry summer dormancy after flowering.
