Narcissus serotinus

Narcissus serotinus is a small daffodil species native to the western Mediterranean (Portugal, Spain, Morocco), notable for flowering very early in autumn, before its cylindrical leaves appear. The slender, leafless stem bears one, occasionally two, small fragrant white flowers with a flat corolla and a short yellow cup. It grows naturally in garrigue and dry, rocky places. In cultivation it needs very free-draining soil, a warm sunny position, and a particularly dry summer rest, with the bulb planted fairly shallow.
