Sparaxis caryophyllacea

This plant most likely corresponds to Sparaxis caryophyllacea, a small cormous Iridaceae species endemic to the Cape region of South Africa, where it grows in fynbos. It produces a fan of narrow leaves and a stem bearing small star-shaped flowers in variable tones, from cream to reddish brown, often marked with yellow at the throat. Flowering occurs in the southern spring. As reliable information on this particular species remains limited, these notes are given with caution. It grows in sandy, well-drained soil, in full sun, with a dry summer rest.
