Iris regelio

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
This plant belongs to section Regelia of the genus Iris, a group of rhizomatous bearded irises native to Central Asia (Iran, Afghanistan, Turkestan), close relatives of the Oncocyclus irises with which they hybridise naturally (so-called "regeliocyclus" hybrids). The flowers, often finely veined with brown or purple on a pale ground, open in spring on short stems usually bearing two blooms. As the exact species is not specified for this item, this description remains at section level: these irises need very free-draining soil, full sun, and a completely dry summer rest.
