Colchicum baytopiorum

Colchicum baytopiorum is a small bulbous species native to the mountains of south-western Turkey, where it grows in rocky upland meadows. It produces delicate, lilac-pink cup-shaped flowers in autumn, smaller than those of many other colchicums, appearing before the foliage which develops the following spring. Like other colchicums, the whole plant is toxic. It is grown in a sunny position, on well-drained soil, and is particularly well suited to rockeries where its discreet flowering can be appreciated up close.
