Achimenes

The genus Achimenes (Gesneriaceae), sometimes nicknamed the "hot water plant", comprises about thirty species of perennials with scaly rhizomes native to Mexico and Central America. They develop supple, sometimes trailing foliage and numerous flared, trumpet-shaped flowers in bright colours (pink, purple, red, white), from spring to autumn. As the exact species is not specified for this item, this description remains at genus level: achimenes are grown frost-free, in a bright position without scorching direct sun, in rich, humus-rich soil, watered with lukewarm water.
