Allium sphaerocephalum

Allium sphaerocephalon (Amaryllidaceae), known as drumstick allium, is native to Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Growing 50 to 80 cm tall, it bears a compact, egg-shaped summer umbel (June–July), pale green at first and ripening to deep wine-red-purple. The fine foliage withers before flowering. Rich in nectar, it attracts many pollinators. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil; it naturalises readily in a flowering meadow.
