Androcymbium capense

Androcymbium capense (Colchicaceae), also classified as Colchicum capense, is a cormous geophyte native to the clay and stony flats from Namaqualand to the western Karoo in South Africa. Virtually stemless, it forms a low rosette of ciliate, lance-shaped leaves, at the centre of which whitish, sometimes green-striped flowers are enclosed by large, pale bracts. It flowers during the southern winter (July-August). Grow in poor, well-drained soil in full sun, watering in winter and keeping dry during summer dormancy; best grown in a pot in cold climates.
