Barlia robertiana (syn. Himantoglossum robertianum, Orchidaceae) is a terrestrial orchid from the Mediterranean Basin, found from France and Italy to Spain, Greece and North Africa up to 1100 m elevation. It forms a rosette of broad, glossy leaves from which rises, January to April, a dense spike of fragrant, purple-brown flowers with a white lip spotted purple. Grow in full sun, in well-drained calcareous soil kept dry in summer; hardy in Mediterranean climates, needing protection from prolonged frost.
