Brodiaea

Brodiaea californica (Asparagaceae) is a bulbous plant endemic to California, growing in meadows and grassy slopes up to 1400 m elevation. In late spring and summer it produces an umbel of large, star-shaped, lilac-purple flowers veined in a darker shade, carried on a bare stem above narrow basal leaves. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil kept dry in summer as in its natural habitat; hardy to around -12 °C.
