Chasmanthe aethiopica (Iridaceae) is a cormous plant native to South Africa's Cape region, winter-growing and deciduous in summer. In winter and early spring it produces tall, arching stems bearing one-sided spikes of tubular, horn-shaped, bright orange flowers. Grow in full sun or part shade, in well-drained soil, watered in winter and kept dry in summer; hardy to around -5 to -8 °C with good mulching.
