Crinum

Crinum 'Ellen Bosanquet' (Amaryllidaceae) is an old and highly popular hybrid, raised in Florida in the early 20th century, whose exact parentage (possibly involving C. moorei and C. zeylanicum) was never disclosed. In summer it produces an umbel of trumpet-shaped, deep wine-red, subtly fragrant flowers on a sturdy stem above broad, arching foliage. Grow in full sun, in rich, moist, well-drained soil; hardy to around -10 °C with good winter mulch.
