Crocus dalmaticus (Iridaceae) is a cormous plant native to the northwestern Balkans, from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to Montenegro and northern Albania along the Adriatic coast. In February it bears slender flowers with pointed tepals, pink-lilac to buff or dark violet, with a yellow throat and an orange, three-branched stigma, above narrow dark green leaves. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil; hardy to USDA zone 7, it suits rock gardens and sunny borders.
