Crocus niveus (Iridaceae) is a cormous plant endemic to the southern Peloponnese in Greece, growing in olive groves and scrub. In October–November it bears one or two large white, pale lilac or bicoloured flowers with a deep yellow throat, borne above barely developed leaves, with orange-yellow anthers and a red style divided into thread-like branches. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil that stays dry in summer; protect from excess winter moisture, hardy in temperate regions.
