tommasianus

Crocus tommasinianus (Iridaceae) is a cormous plant native from southern Hungary to the northwestern Balkans (Croatia, Bosnia, Bulgaria), growing on hillsides and woodland edges. In late winter it bears slender flowers, pale mauve to silvery purple outside, opening into lilac stars with a white centre in the sun. Highly floriferous, it self-seeds and naturalizes quickly into broad drifts, spreading both by seed and vegetatively. Grow in full sun or part shade, in well-drained soil; very hardy.
