Crocus versicolor (Iridaceae) is a cormous plant native to southeastern France, the Principality of Monaco and northwestern Italy, growing in scrub and rocky ground up to 1200 m elevation. From February to April it bears white, lilac or purple flowers with a yellow throat and darker outer stripes, the outer segments silvery to buff. It grows wild in Provence. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil that stays dry in summer; hardy and well suited to dry Mediterranean gardens.
