Cyanella orchidiformis (Tecophilaeaceae) is a cormous plant endemic to the Cape provinces of South Africa, growing on rocky flats and slopes, often in damp spots, between Steinkopf and Clanwilliam. From July to September it bears carnation-scented, mauve flowers with a maroon centre, reaching 40 cm tall, with stamens of unequal length characteristic of the genus. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil kept dry during summer dormancy; protect from frost, growing in pots in cold regions.
