Cyclamen

Cyclamen is a genus in the family Primulaceae comprising around twenty species of tuberous plants native to the Mediterranean basin and the Near East as far as Iran. Their heart-shaped leaves, often marbled with grey or silver, accompany flowers with swept-back petals forming an upturned, shooting-star shape, in white, pink or purple, blooming in spring, summer, autumn or winter depending on the species. Grow in part shade, in humus-rich, well-drained soil; most wild species prefer soil that stays dry during their summer dormancy.
