Brevoortia

Brevoortia is an old genus name, now a synonym of Dichelostemma, under which Dichelostemma ida-maia, the firecracker flower, was long classified. This bulbous plant, native to northern California and southern Oregon, grows at the edge of mountain forest and in coastal meadows. In spring it produces an umbel of bright red, green-tipped tubular flowers atop a leafless stem. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil, with a dry summer rest; hardy in Mediterranean climates.
