Eucomis is a genus of bulbous plants in the family Asparagaceae, native to southern Africa, where around fifteen species grow in damp, rocky grassland. Known as the pineapple lily, it forms a rosette of broad, often mottled leaves, from which a dense spike of star-shaped flowers emerges in summer, topped with a tuft of bracts resembling a pineapple's crown. Grow in rich, well-drained soil, in full sun; hardy with good winter mulching in temperate climates.
