Eucomis punctuata, now generally treated as Eucomis comosa, is a South African species recognisable by its wavy-edged leaves spotted with purple on the underside. Its flowering stem, also purple-speckled, bears in summer a dense spike of pale green, purple-margined star-shaped flowers, topped with a crown of bracts.
