Ferraria

Ferraria is a genus of cormous plants in the family Iridaceae, native to tropical and southern Africa, where around thirty species grow in sandy and rocky areas. Their unusual, star-shaped flowers with frilled petals come in dark colours, brown, purple or olive, often mottled, and last only a day. Some give off a carrion-like smell to attract pollinating flies. Grow in well-drained sandy soil, in full sun; dry summer rest, protect from frost.
