Ferraria, a South African genus in the family Iridaceae, comprises around thirty species of cormous plants with short-lived, unusual star-shaped flowers with frilled or wavy petals. The dark colours, brown, olive or mottled purple, and the sometimes fetid scent of certain species are adaptations for fly pollination. Grow in well-drained sandy or stony soil, in full sun; dry summer rest, winter protection from frost and excess moisture.
