Ferraria

Ferraria, a genus in the family Iridaceae native to southern and tropical Africa, comprises around thirty species of cormous plants with fan-arranged, sword-shaped foliage. Their highly unusual, star-shaped flowers, with frilled or wavy petals, come in dark tones of brown, gold or purple, often mottled, and open for only a single day. Grow in well-drained sandy soil, in full sun; dry summer rest, and protect the corm from frost and excess winter moisture.
