Gladiolus ommunis

Often misspelled, this name refers to Gladiolus communis subsp. byzantinus, the Byzantine gladiolus, native to the Mediterranean basin. Hardy and vigorous, it produces tall spikes of vivid magenta-pink flowers in spring, very conspicuous in meadows and dry gardens. Grow in full sun, in well-drained soil, even poor soil; it naturalises easily, multiplies freely from offsets, and tolerates both cold and summer drought well.
