Hypoxis rooperi

Hypoxis rooperi is a now-invalid synonym of Hypoxis hemerocallidea, the "African potato," a cormous perennial in the Hypoxidaceae family native to southern Africa. Despite the name change, the plant remains well known under this older name, particularly in herbal medicine literature where its corm is traditionally used. It produces sickle-shaped, slightly hairy foliage and small bright yellow star-shaped flowers that open in the morning. Grow in well-drained soil, full sun, with generous watering during the summer growth period typical of summer-rainfall regions.
