Sauromatum venosum — Voodoo lily

Sauromatum, a flower of the shade Its name sounds a bit like a dinosaur's, but there's nothing Jurassic about it here! Its flowering is nonetheless astonishing, in the form of a spathe resembling a Perrier bottle standing on the ground (Pretty crazy, isn't it?)... This purple-brown flower (of the Arum type) gives off a distinctive smell, not to say a strong one... which earns it its nickname “Voodoo lily“... It appears in April-May. Use in a half-shade position.
