Massonia depressa

This genus, related to Lachenalia and Polyxena, is easily recognised by its two almost round leaves, 6-10cm in diameter, lying flat on the ground. Nestled between these two leaves is the discreet flowering, in the form of a very short corymb made up of small tubular flowers. Through its copious production of nectar and its "yeasty" scent, Massonia is one of the few bulbs pollinated by rodents (!)
