HAEMANTHUS a GÉNÉRAL — Paint brush

This genus is found in both Mediterranean and sub-tropical climates. From the large bulb emerge curious inflorescences shaped like a shaving-brush, made up of numerous tightly packed stamens with waxy-looking bracts, followed by two fleshy leaves (except H. albiflos, which is evergreen). Not very hardy, it must be grown in a pot in frost-prone regions; repot it as little as possible.
