Lilium Royal Gold

Lilium 'Royal Gold' is a cultivar derived from Lilium regale, selected in Britain in the mid-twentieth century. It retains the tall habit, glaucous stems, and large, flared, outward-facing trumpet flowers of the wild regal lily, but displays much richer colouring: a deep golden-yellow throat spreading broadly across the inner tepals, shading to creamy white, with the reverse flushed rose-pink to lilac. Strongly and sweetly fragrant, it flowers in summer in cool, well-drained, slightly acidic soil, and is well suited to mixed perennial borders.
