Albuca BB sp1 altissima ?

This accession of the genus Albuca (Asparagaceae) is likely close to Albuca altissima, though this is not fully certain. Native to South Africa, the species grows from a large, depressed-globose bulb with membranous tunics, producing five to six lance-shaped leaves over 50 cm long and a robust flowering stem reaching up to 80 cm or more. Flowering occurs in spring, with a profusion of white, green-striped flowers whose flared outer tepals surround the inner cluster, resembling giant snowdrops; the genus is indeed closely related to Ornithogalum. Cultivation requires well-drained soil, full sun, and a pronounced dry dormancy outside the growing season.
