Iris Pacifiic Coast hybr

Category photo (no photo of its own for this entry)
The name “Iris Pacific Coast Hybrids” groups together the horticultural hybrids derived from the eleven beardless iris species native to the Pacific coast of the United States (California to Washington), among them Iris douglasiana. Rhizomatous, they form clumps of narrow, evergreen leaves, and produce in spring large, flat, brightly coloured flowers — white, cream, yellow, and the whole range of blues and violets, often delicately veined or marbled. Suited to a Mediterranean climate, they require a sunny to half-shaded position, well-drained soil, without excess standing moisture, and tolerate summer drought well.
